Lady Diana Salazar, 37, is a lawyer and the first black woman to serve as the Attorney General of Ecuador. The Council for Citizen Participation organized the contest after which she was sworn in by the National Assembly. There is great hope that she will investigate thoroughly corruption cases that involve the ex-president Rafael Correa and people linked to his administration. The Attorney General´s office is experiencing a crisis due to the lack of staff and resources, some prosecutors must attend up to five thousand investigation, this can only complicate the task of doing justice.
Correa questioned the appointment of Salazar, he considers her to be biased in favor of his political enemies. She announced that she will restructure the Ecuadorian Public Ministry.
